About Us

Bainside House is run by Fiona and Paul, who took the site on in late 2023. We had been keen campers for years before that, touring some wonderful places in our campervan, and we reached the point where we wanted to run a site of our own rather than keep driving away from other people’s. When we found Bainside, in a quiet village just outside Woodhall Spa, we knew straight away that it was the one.

What we bought was a small campsite wrapped around a 1.75-acre coarse fishing lake, and we have kept it deliberately small ever since. There are 14 touring pitches, eight of them hardstanding and six grass, along with 11 seasonal pitches at the top of the site, five of which have direct access to the water. Two lakeside glamping pods sit on the southern edge of the lake, each with its own private fishing peg, and there is a two-bedroom holiday let sleeping four a few steps from the bank.

The single biggest decision we made was to keep Bainside adults only, throughout. It is not that we have anything against families, it is that there are very few places left where two people can sit by a lake at seven in the evening and hear nothing but the water. That is what we are trying to protect, and it is why guests tell us the site feels calmer than they expected. Well-behaved dogs are welcome everywhere on a lead, and we have never charged for them.

Day to day, it is the two of us. We keep the two shower and toilet blocks heated and clean, one of them fully accessible, we run a small shop in the reception shed for the things people forget, including free-range eggs from our own hens, and we put in automatic barriers and CCTV so that guests can leave the site without giving it a second thought. The Ebrington Arms is next door if you would rather someone else cooked, and Woodhall Spa is five minutes down the road for the Kinema, Jubilee Park and the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight at Coningsby.
