Day Ticket Fishing

In short: you can fish Bainside’s 1.75-acre coarse lake at Kirkby on Bain for the day without staying on site. A day ticket is £10 per angler from 8am, there are around 30 level-access pegs, and you need a rod fishing licence if you are 13 or over. Get in touch before you travel if you would like us to confirm there is a peg free.

What Is in the Lake

Carp to the mid-thirties and grass carp into the low twenties, plus bream to 12lb, tench, perch, chub, barbel, ide, F1s, roach, rudd and crucian carp. The lake fishes well on most baits, with bread and sweetcorn generally best for mixed bags. Pellet and maggot do well for the smaller fish, and the larger carp take most baits but do like bread and paste bait.

What to Bring

  • A rod fishing licence if you are 13 or over, which you can buy online from GOV.UK.
  • An unhooking mat, to be used at all times when fishing for the larger fish.
  • Fish aid spray, which everyone fishing must have.
  • Barbless hooks, to a maximum of size 6.
  • Line of no more than 35lb, with safety leaders and hook lengths.
  • Your nets: all nets, including keep nets, landing nets, net bags and unhooking mats, must be dipped, then dried in UV light on the bank for 20 minutes before they go into the water.

The Main Rules

  • A maximum of two rods per person.
  • No floating baits: baits must be presented at least 10 inches below the surface.
  • No bait boats, no spinning and no live or dead baiting.
  • No whole nut baits; please ask before using a commercial nut-based bait.
  • Fish only from behind the recognised pegs, and not within or over the water lily or reed beds.
